E.G. Lewis has done an incredibly wonderful thing for readers with or without "faith". The four set of books "Witness", "Disciple", "Apostle" and "Martyr" brings the reader right into the midst of the time of Yeshua or Jesus by injecting his vision of the lives of those who may have been there. Yet, Jesus, as such, does not appear directly throughout this series, although his mother, Maryam appears from time time. It has been a rare occasion that I could claim that I could not put a book down (in my 75 years), but that has been the case with all four. Absolutely wonderful and superb. I have recommended it to my grandchildren as well, although it is not a children's book per se. Believers will be reinforced, whereas so-called non-believers will find their curiosity aroused and begin to question the real possibility that these New Testament biblical events may very well have occurred as Lewis describes them. The characters become real, especially those commonly referred to as the disciples or apostles in all of their human existence, and the ongoing saga enticing and absorbing. Higher praise could not be more easily provided as in my opinion these four books are the best I have read in a lifetime, next to the Bible itself. In a similar style as the great Sholem Asch-Lewis makes the Bible more vivid and the persona of those Biblical characters that we think we know so well become ever more enchanting and interesting. By utilizing biblical historic fact and interspersing, if not enhancing, with "real" albeit fictional people who could well have existed and been there, Lewis has accomplished an oft sought after technique or methodology of absorbing the reader's attention and interest. This is an unequivocal "don't miss" if there ever was one, with all due respect to the classics and others. As a Christian with educated and faithful Jewish roots I was ecstatic to be able to relate to those who lived in those days, an issue that has always been part of my beliefs. Although it is not intended as a proselytizing for sure, it does raise the crucial question I have often pondered: "If I did live among these folks, at that time, what would I have believed?" With Lewis' series, I am significantly reinforced to what I have personally concluded and accepted more than 53 years ago.

The whole collection makes for easy reading about the origins of Catholicism, written in a novelesque way
Book 4 takes you on an adventure as the Apostles scatter to the four winds teaching the Word as directed by Jesus. By the time I reached Martyr, I was reading every word as fast as possible to see what would become of Rivka and her growing family. The ending left me emotionally devastated, but also thankful to have read the series. I grew up in a Bible-based church, and this series filled in a lot of blanks for me. While it's true some of Mr. Lewis' work is fictional, a lot is historically accurate. Well written.
Although reading this series (especially Martyr) was difficult at times, it brings to mind the same struggles we see looming it's ugly head again in our present day around the world. The utter cruelty of some of mankind to others at times seems so hard to understand; however, reading this series brings to light the historic struggles that continues to this day. In a way, reading this series may not be for the faint of heart.
Very good, well documented history. Tells the story of the early Christian believers, their movements, trials,and persecution. I fear that most of us who go by the name "Christian", or Christ Follower today will fail the tests of persecution, especially those of us who live in countries where our faith has never been tested to the point of torture and death.
After reading all of the Seeds of Christianity series books, this was an excellent finality. This is a novel that will keep anyone reading late into the night and is loaded with true facts on the early church in Rome and the Apostles Peter and Paul. It also illustrates the extreme persecution of the Christians under Roman rule at that time and little known facts about the tyrant Nero. All of the series books are heartwarming and the characters are well developed. I gave the book a five star rating because I enjoyed it and will read it again and again. I would recommend MARTYR for any Christian as well as the other series novels. A well done to Mr. Lewis
I really enjoyed this series. 'Martyr" is the last novel of the series and it was as good as I hoped it would be. The way the main characters came to their end was predictable, but still very satisfying. E. G. Lewis brought to life the times in which Jesus walked the earth and he did so with creativity and clarity AND with amazing adherence to the Biblical story. Bravo. I would recommend this series to anyone who would enjoy the chance to imagine what the world and the people in it were like when Christ made his visit.
The only thing I didn't love about this book was that it is the last book in the series, and I would like to read a dozen more.

After reading the first, book I did something I almost never do. I immediately bought and downloaded the other three books in the series. I had picked up Witness when it was free, and I have almost 500 unread books in my . Yet, I hurried to pay full price (albeit an extremely reasonable price) for three more books and read them right away.

This book was both sad and hopeful--sad about the persecution and martyrdom of Christians in Rome in the first century yet filled with hope for the future of all Christians--those persecuted in the first century, those persecuted and martyred today, and those who are relatively safe from persecution--in Heaven with the Lord.

Although there were editing errors, especially homonyms, they did not take away from the reading experience.

I highly recommend this entire series to anyone who enjoys a good story well-told and who likes to learn about the early days of Christianity.
